We have two exciting opportunities for a HR Coordinator on a Term full-time basis and Human Resources Recruiter on a Temporary full-time basis to join our team in North Vancouver

The HR Coordinator: Reporting to Management, this position is the primary administrative service provider to a +/- 10 person department.  The incumbent acts as the administrative “right hand” for the department by coordinating all in-flowing / outgoing information; and acts as the “gatekeeper” for the department’s schedule.  The incumbent is responsible for a wide range of word processing, research, and administrative tasks and reception.  Has knowledge and understanding associated with HR programs and functions.  The incumbent is well organized and requires strong interpersonal, technical/administrative skills; with exceptional time management, multi-tasking, customer service skills; and works well independently under minimal supervision.  Some duties follow established procedures while others require independent judgment.  Knowledge of Squamish Nation and mainstream HR policies, practices and protocols is required.  Operates at a high level of people interaction and must be able to respond with courtesy, tact and diplomacy.  The incumbent keeps all Squamish Nation information strictly confidential.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates and directs information in to and out of the Human Resources Department.
  • Performs administrative duties for HR Team (management and staff).
  • Is ‘generalist’ for team, knowledgeable of all HR programs/functions, ie benefits, safety, training, etc.
  • Responsible for payroll information / entry, cheque requisitions, purchase orders, monitoring budgets, etc.
  • Responsible for Reception function for Chen Chen Stway Human Resources Department.
  • Coordinates meetings, workshops, training, community events, etc.
  • Maintains master schedule of department staff, bookings, activities, functions, etc.
  • Maintains records, files and statistics; performs research as required.
  • Maintains inventory of office, building supplies and storage contents (janitorial, kitchen, safety, etc).
  • Coordinates maintenance of Squamish Nation policy manuals and interpretation of policies.
  • Updates and assists with maintaining Organization Charts.
  • Adheres to workplace health & safety policies, safe work practices and procedures.
  • Participates as a member of Chen Chen Stway Human Resources Team.

The Human Resources Recruiter: Squamish Nation is seeking an experienced Senior Recruitment Assistant to provide recruitment support to our Recruitment & Orientation division. The Sr. Recruitment Assistant will be well-versed in best practices in attracting, interviewing and the related administrative duties for a medium sized organization.  A strong knowledge of Canada Labour Code and BC Employment Standards, job analysis and hr file management will be relied upon.  With his/her excellent interpersonal skills, the incumbent will work with other team members and management to effectively assist in all areas of recruitment.  She/he operates at a high level of interaction with employees/management, responding with courtesy, tact and diplomacy. Uses sound judgment to make decisions and works well independently requiring minimal supervision. Exemplary interpersonal, communication and analytical skills assist the incumbent in identifying issues and suggesting preventative or corrective measures, trends, reporting metrics, providing recommendations and contributing to strategic dialogue.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Creates postings for internal and external positions based on our job descriptions and position status.
  • Assists in creating advertising campaigns with our service provider or independently.
  • Provides updates to HR management regarding candidate pools for active postings.
  • Creates applicant grids for short-listing process.
  • Creates, modifies interview questions and pretests for candidates.
  • Meets with hiring managers and department heads to review interview templates.
  • Follows up with applicants during recruitment process as required.
  • Organizes interviews.
  • Assists with diligence process for selected candidates;
  • Accurately and efficiently enters employee data into HRIS system;
  • Provides back-up to Chen Chen Stway HR management.
  • Adheres to workplace health & safety policies, safe work practices and procedures.
  • Participates as a member of Chen Chen Stway Human Resources team.


For the HR Coordinator role, we are seeking a candidate with a Certificate in Human Resources, Business Administration, Office Administration or relevant field from a recognized post-secondary institution.

You will also demonstrate:

  • 2 to 3 years of directly-related experience in majority of specialties listed in the job description, including office administration/coordination, file management and organization, HR programs/functions, etc.
  • Experience as an intermediate to advanced level user of Microsoft Office applications and internet, etc.
  • Working experience with a large scale computerized database system. JD Edwards experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience working in a First Nations Community (particularly Squamish) is preferred.
  • Must have a valid BC Driver’s License Class 4 or 5. Class 7N may be considered.
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle and current auto insurance.
  • Must be willing to travel to Squamish Valley as required.

For the Human Resources Recruiter role, we are seeking a candidate with a Diploma specializing in Human Resources, Business Administration, Business Management, or related/relevant field from a recognized post-secondary institution.

You will also demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 3 years (with Diploma) OR minimum of 4 years (with Certificate) of directly-related experience in the above noted duties including recruitment, HR administration / coordination.
  • Experience as an intermediate / advanced level user of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous experience working in a First Nations Community (particularly Squamish) (preferred)
  • Working experience with a large scale computerized database system. Experience with JD Edwards is an asset.

Above all, for both of these roles we area seeking proactive professionals with exceptional time management and multi-tasking skills. The ability to uphold the highest level confidentiality and operate at a high level of people interaction, requiring tact, impartiality and diplomacy are essential.

As career progresses, incumbent will be required to successfully complete job-required, short-term upgrading, training and courses relating to HR programs/functions, coordination, employment law, computer software applications, etc. May be willing to consider Grade 12 plus 5-6 years relevant/related work experience for above education and experience.  The successful completion of a Criminal Records is also required, as per Squamish Nation policy.
